Male Birthday

This is for the SCS sketch challenge number 143. I needed a male birthday card so I used this sketch for my inspiration. There are a ton of layers on this card, but not too much stamping. Supplies used: Outlaw designer series paper, Bronc Buster and It's Your Birthday stamp sets. Creamy Caramel, Chocolate Chip and Sage Shadow card stock. Vanilla brads, paper piercer, Chocolate Chip marker and ink and Crystal Effects.

Techno Take Out Winner.

I used the

Random Integer Generator

at randomnumber.org and it picked this number.................

Here are your random numbers:

43

I counted twice to be sure I counted correctly and both times I came up with.......

Congratulations on your blog milestone. My favorite technique is basically altering! I love to alter anything and everything I can get my hands on! When I'm shopping (or visiting my mom) I keep my eyes peeled for items I can alter. My one requirement is that they must be useful items!

Great blog give away!

Funny how that worked out that altering is her favorite technique, send me your snail mail address and I will get your prizes out to you. Sorry no designer paper, only 109 comments - maybe we will hit goal next time. Thanks to everyone for the great comments. I will be checking out a few techniques I did not know about!

TECHNO TAKE-OUT (blog candy) with a bonus for 150 comments

Well, while I was fooling around with classes last night my counter hit 10,000 hits! I am amazed at this since I just gave away something for 5,000. Thanks to all of you who visit my blog and a super special thanks to all that leave me comment. There are many of you who send me private e-mails in stead of posting your comments on the blog and that is fine! It makes a girl feel good to hear that someone enjoys her work. As I have said in previous posts not only do I love to give stuff away, but I generally buy too much of everything that I buy, lol. Well, I now have a solution for this. I am giving away 10 alterable items. One for each thousand hits! And as a special bonus I will add a customer direct order for the winner's choice of designer paper frompages 171-173 of our current Stampin Up! catalog if I get over 150 comments. So tell you friends to come over and check it out. You only need to leave a comment letting me know what your favorite technique is and maybe a link or short description if needed. For those of you that don't know the Techno in my blog name is really short for Techniques because I love them.

List of items in give away.
1. Clipboard
2. A 3 and 1/2 by 3 and 1/2 solid wood block.
3 and 4. Two mini tins that I used to create those magnets in this post.
5. A mini rectangle tin.
6. A mini Paper Mache Circle Box.
7. A package of two large clothes pins from Creative Imaginations.
8. A jumbo chipboard flower from Making Memories
9. A plain white pencil box.
10 A Mead composition book

BONUS: your choice of designer paper from the current SU catalog pages 170-173 delivered directly to you from SU. This is only added if I get over 150 comments. Please only comment once. But do send over all your friends so we can get over the 150 mark. I will leave this open untill Friday 28th at 11:59pm EST. Thanks.

Faux Diamonds for Christmas "Season of Joy"

Another sketch challenge.

This was my swap card on one of my groups. I had a lot of fun creating it which is weird since I had to do so much coloring with all those different color markers! Not normally a favorite of mine. The main image from Season of Joy is colored with Real Red, Old Olive, Bashful Blue, So Saffron, Pretty in Pink and Regal Rose markers. After I colored it I covered the entire image with Versa Mark ink and embossed with Iridescent Ice embossing powder to create the Faux Diamond Dust technique. It is incredibly sparkly in real life! I mounted that piece on a piece of Real Red card stock that has small dots around it made with my gel pen. The base of the card is Wild Wasabi followed by Bashful Blue. The striped paper is from the Winter Bright Simply Scrappin kit. I finished off the card with three Real Red brads and some pretty in pink ribbon. The Merry Christmas is stamped in Real Red. This was also another sketch challenge from Sara's Desperate Stamper. I believe it was sketch number 6.

By the way, I still need 48 more comments on the Techno Takeout to reach the bonus level. If you have not left a comment yet please do. Only one comment per person though. So spread the word. Here is the original post.

This is great!

I could not help but share this one!

Are you Martha or Maxine????

*Martha's Way*

Stuff a miniature marshmallow in the bottom of a sugar cone to prevent ice cream drips.

*Maxine's Way *

Just suck the ice cream out of the bottom of the cone, for Pete's sake! You are probably lying on the couch with your feet up eating it, anyway!

To keep potatoes from budding, place an apple in the bag with the potatoes.

Buy Hungry Jack mashed potato mix , keep it in the pantry for up to a year.

When a cake recipe calls for flouring the baking pan, use a bit of the dry cake mix instead and there won't be any white mess on the outside of the cake.

Go to the bakery! They'll even decorate it for you.

If you accidentally oversalt a dish while it's still cooking, drop in a peeled potato and it will absorb the excess salt for an instant 'fix-me-up.'

If you oversalt a dish while you are cooking, that's too bad. Please recite with me the real woman's motto: 'I made it and you will eat it and I don't care how bad it tastes!'

Wrap celery in aluminum foil when putting in the refrigerator and it will keep for weeks.

Celery? Never heard of it!

Brush some beaten egg white over pie crust before baking to yield a beautiful glossy finish.

The Mrs. Smith frozen pie directions do not include brushing egg whites over the crust so I don't.

Cure for headaches: take a lime, cut it in half and rub it on your forehead. The throbbing will go away.

Take a lime, mix it with tequila, chill and drink!

If you have a problem opening jars, try using latex dishwashing gloves. They give a non-slip grip that makes opening jars easy.

Go ask that very cute neighbor if he can open it for you.

Don't throw out all that leftover wine. Freeze into ice cubes for future use in casseroles and sauces.

Leftover wine???????? ???
HELLO !!!!!!!

As usual, if you don't forward this to 1 of your friends within the next 5 minutes, your belly button will unscrew and your butt will fall off. Really... it's true! Have I ever lied to you?

Scrappy Card

OK, this is one of the cards I was talking about last night. The one I said that I don't like. Sometimes I can create a card and not like it but when I walk away from it for the night I love it in the morning -- not the case with this one. I still don't like it. I have tons and tons of these stickers from lots of different simply scrappin kits laying around that I need to use so I thought I would try to use some on this sketch. The only thing good about it is that did get another sketch challenge done! Maybe one of you guys will like it. That is one of the best things about stamping, we all have different styles and tastes and there is truly no right or wrong! All supplies for this card are from the Winter Bright Simply Scrappin Kit. The sketch is from Sara's Desperate Stamper blog.

Birthday Boy.

Here is another card for Sara's Desperate Stamper Blog. This is sketch number 20. I tried to keep this one kind of simple -- not too bulky because it will be one that I add to the card box I give my mom for Christmas. She does not like to have to pay extra postage so you can not make it too bulky. This does have dimentionals under the word birthday but that is the only "extra bulk". Sometimes it is harder to create cards like this than the more complicated ones, weird.

Supplies used: Chocolate Chip, Bashful Blue, Creamy Carmel and Vanilla card stock. Outlaw designer series paper. Bashful Blue and Chocolate Chip ink. Stamp Sets: Wanted, So Many Sayings and It's Your Birthday. Other large and small oval punch. Simple but cute, perfect for my mom. I did get two more sketches done today but will post them later. One I am not sure I like and the other is for a swap on a group I am in so I may hold off on posting that one for a bit??? Thanks for stopping by today.

DON'T FORGET TO GET IN ON THE TECHNO-TAKE OUT FOUND HERE!

Be Merry -- Very Merry!

Believe it or not I just am finishing up some left over Christmas Cards from last year. I do a Christmas Stamping event every year where people come and create 20 different Christmas Cards. No two are alike. I always cut extra of each card so that I will be sure to have extra pieces if people mess up. Then I always figure to make the left over for my own cards, well I have about 2-3 of each card left over and never made them last year! Sooooooo, I will be making them over the next month or so -- that is if I still like the cards, you all know how fast our tastes change in this hobby! This was one of my favorite from last year. Hope you enjoy.

Cardstock: Certainly Celery, Basic Black, Rose Red and Whisper White.
Ink: Rose Red, Certainly Celery and Basic Black
Stamp Sets: retired Ornamasortment, Warm Words, Holiday Tag Team and the retired Houndstooth background
Other: Dimensionals, rose ribbon, celery ribbon, white brads, black marker and tag punch.

What Color Are You? I am a red crayon, that is my favorite color too.

You Are a Red Crayon

Your world is colored with bright, vivid, wild colors.
You have a deep, complex personality - and you are always expressing something about yourself.
Bold and dominant, you are a natural leader. You have an energy that is intense... and sometimes overwhelming.
Your reaction to everything tends to be strong. You are the master of love-hate relationships.

Your color wheel opposite is green. Green people are way too mellow to understand what drives your energy.

Isn't it weird how these things really seem to fit your personallity.

Beate's Weekend Sketch Challenge #20

I am not sure why but I had a bit of a hard time with this one. I knew I wanted to use the Bronc Buster set but for some reason the layout was throwing me for a loop. There were many things I thought about adding but I thought, naw, I'll keep this one simple -- that could be what the problem was, lol. Anyway, this is what I ended up with. Hope you enjoy.

Again this is for Beate's Weekend Challenge at her Fresh and Fun Blog.

Supplies used: Outlaw designer series paper, Bronc Buster stamp set, vanilla brads, paper piercer, photo corner punch, misc twine. Card stock: Chocolate Chip, Really Rust, Sage Shadow. Ink: Chocolate Chip.

Background Pop Technique

As long as I was creating, I did another one of Sara's sketch challenges from her Desperate Stamper blog. This is sketch #2.

I had a technique class last night and this is one of the cards from it. The technique is called Background Pop. I have not done it in a long time and forgot how much fun it is. We do two cards and one 6 x 6 page for their books at this class. The 6 x 6 describes the technique so they can reference it at a later time.

Here is a close up of the butterfly ......

Supplies used:
Paper: Bashful Blue, Close to Cocoa and Blue Bayou
Ink: Bashful Blue, Not Quite Navy and Basic Black
Other supplies: Scallop Circle Punch, 5-Petal Flower Punch, Ticket Corner Punch, paper piercer, white gel pen, rhinestone brad.
Stamps: retired Wonderful Wings, Paisley, In the Spotlight and the retired Warmest Regard.

Hope you enjoy!

How are you feeling?

It is so important to eat right.

Yesterday I went to the doctor for my yearly physical.
My blood pressure was high, my cholesterol was high,
I'd gained some weight, and I didn't feel so hot.

My doctor said eating right doesn't have to
be complicated and it would solve my physical
problems. He said just think in colors...
Fill your plate with bright colors... greens,
yellows, reds, etc.

I went right home and ate an
entire bowl of M&M's
. . .

And sure enough, I felt better immediately.

I never knew eating right
could be so easy.

Hope you have a GREAT day!!

This was sent to one of my groups by my friend
Ida Krause
I thought it was so true so I had to share with you!

Big on Christmas and Birthdays!

One more sketch challenge down! This is sketch 15 from Sara's Desperate Stamper Blog.

This card was so fun to make. As soon as I seen this set I knew I wanted to change this up to make the set more versatile. I can not believe I have not seen it done yet, after all it took me forever to get the set and then it has been sitting on my table for a couple of days waiting to be mounted. I really do not like mounting stamps so sometimes I only mount the ones I need at the moment. But the most awesome thing happened yesterday, a dear friend stopped by and mounted at least 6-7 sets for me! How nice was that, I am so excited cuz it might of been weeks before this card came to life! Thanks Laura, love ya!

So for the details on the card. The base of this 6 x 6 card is textured real read cardstock from the Winter Bright Simply Scrappin Kit. It is followed by a layer of textured pretty in pink that has paper piercing on the two left hand corners. The side strip is a piece of the designer paper from the same kit that has been embossed with the swirls Cuttlebug envelope. I was trying to bring in the swirls from the present. I attached this embossed piece to a piece of real red and added three red brads to both the top and the bottom. Next is the main image. I stamped only the H-PPY from the Happy Holidays stamp in the Big on Christmas Set. I used my stamp-a-ma-jig to line up the present from the retired set Tag time. I stamped it once on the main image and once on a scrap of the same striped paper that is used on the side. I cut out the one on the designer paper and glued it on top of the main image. And then using my stamp-a-ma-jig again I stamped the word Birthday from Sincere Salutations. There are specks stamped on the main image in bashful blue and pretty in pink with the Itty Bitty Backgrounds set. I added a small strip of textured bashful blue that had been punched with the spiral punch to the side of the image after layering it on real red. I tied a piece of rose ribbon to the top notch. the card is finished off with another piece of rose ribbon with a large red oval and a small white over with the words from Simple Sayings II stamped on it. I used a red marker to free hand the dots around the mini greeting. Hope you enjoy.

Boo to You!

I am not much of a Halloween card maker/sender but I do love the Stampin Up! Halloween stamps so I have to at least make a couple every year. This card is another sketch challenge. I am ohhhhh so far behind on these. I really do not like being sick. I am feeling much better tonight though so I got to stamp a little in between club and other stuff.! This is sketch 11 from Sara's Desperate Stamper Blog. I have a lot of work ahead of me to get caught up! Here is the sketch.

The card base is Pumpkin Pie. I layered a piece of Basic Black card stock followed by a piece of the Creepy Crawly designer series paper. I inked up the letters B and O from Headline Alphabet with Pumpkin Pie ink and then added some Basic Black ink over half of the letter alternating which half of the letter I did in black. I then sponged some Pumpkin Pie ink around the edges. Next I sliced a small slit in the first O and inserted a vellum ghost that I made with my Sizzix. This entire piece was mounted on another piece of Basic Black. The little images on the bottom are all from the Booglie Eyes set. They are punched out with a 3/4 inch square punch and layered on a 1 inch circle of Basic Black. The side strip is Basic Black, more designer paper and the scraps left after a piece of Basic Black was punched with the Round Tab punch. I added one white brad to both pieces. Finally all of the top elements are popped up on dimentionals.

What is in a Name? I have been tagged.

Sorry, no card today, I am still feeling nasty. I just got back from our Cub Scout Pack meeting and I am exausted. (anyone want popcorn?) I promise to have a new sample up tomorrow. In the mean time, I have been tagged by my friend Stefanie over at Nutmeg Stamping. It has been pretty funny to read these on other blogs so I thought what the heck I will give it a shot.

Tagged!

I guess it should be called What's in a Name?

1. YOUR ROCK STAR NAME: (first pet & current car) -JoJoSaturn

2.YOUR GANGSTA NAME: (fav ice cream flavor, favorite cookie) Death by Chocolate Chocolate Chip

funny how the word Death is in the Gangsta one.

3. YOUR “FLY Guy/Girl” NAME: (first initial of first name, first three letters of your last name) M-Pri

4. YOUR DETECTIVE NAME: (favorite color, favorite animal) - Red Horse

5. YOUR SOAP OPERA NAME: (middle name, city where you were born)- Buffalo

I have no middle name. Guess for this game we can pretend that Jo is my middle name, Jo Buffalo. Sounds better

6. YOUR STAR WARS NAME: (the first 3 letters of your last name, first 2 letters of your first) - Prima

That sounds about right too.

7. SUPERHERO NAME: (2nd favorite color, favorite drink put “The”) The purple coffee.

8. NASCAR NAME: (the first names of your grandfathers)- Carl Joesph

9. STRIPPER NAME: ( the name of your favorite perfume/cologne, favorite candy) Obsession jelly bean --- that is pretty funny.

10.WITNESS PROTECTION NAME: (mother’s & father’s middle names ) Lorraine Peppie

That was fun!

Now it's time to tag five more people.

this part is tough -- I think that I will tag Dawn over at Dawn's stamping Thoughts just because I think you should check out her blog and send her some cards for the Cards for Troops mission she is doing. We all have extra cards laying around so why not send them to our military. Great cause.

Next I will tag Amy at Heartfelt Greetings because I love her blog and she is having a rough day!

Now I will tag my friend Lisa Somerville over at Splendiferous Creations because she has some great tutorials going on that I know you guys won't want to miss.

And to be honest with you my head is pounding and I want to go to bed! So that will be all for now-- till next time. Besides you just got four new blogs to check out so you don't need me to post tonight, lol! Enjoy!

HELLO girl friend!

No time to stamp today, no matter how hard I try. My son had a fever all weekend and now that he is feeling better I am feeling horrible! Better me than him, but what the heck? I am also a little over committed in things such as my son's school, cub scouts, the crop walk etc, etc. You all know what I am talking about. So I decided to post a card I did a few months ago and get a good nights sleep. I am sure you guys will be surprised to hear that this card was for a challenge, lol! It was to use Red and Green and a touch of yellow and of course you could use white. It was a super fun card to make although there is very little stamping on it. the backgrounds of both the card and the letters are embossed with a cuttlebug folder and my sizzix machine. The letter are also cut from my sizzix machine. The scallop border is done using my slit punch and then highlighted with my white gel pen. The only stamping is the two flowers from the Doodle This set. They are stamped in White on Real Red and then cut out. I stamped the little words girl and friend from Everyday Flexible Phrases in the centers of the flowers. The letters and flowers are popped up with dimentionals. And finally I added some red and green Primas and white brads. This is one of those cards you wish you would have kept for yourself but you are too lazy to do all that work again just for yourself! It was sent to my friend Leigh O'Brien over at Sunflower Studio. If you have never seen her blog go ahead and check it out. She is another incredible stamper that belongs to that "secret" group.

A Rose is a Rose.......

That may be true in some instances but not this time. This card is created by one of the nicest, kindest, most generous, and extremely talented woman I know, her name is Rose Kerry. I had the honor of meeting her last year at a mini retreat that I went on with a group of wonderful women from a private swap group I belong to. Any way, I missed out on a swap that I wanted to be in because of my own stupidity -- I forgot to mail them! -- so when Rose found out she sent me one of her swap cards anyway. And let me tell you, if you ever see her name on a swap list you better join up. I have never swapped with any one quite like her. She is meticulous with her creations -- never tones her cards down because it is a swap--but instead kicks them up a notch with one more layer or one more piece of hodgepodge or one more item embossed and cut out. After receiving this card I asked her if she would mind if I posted it on here since I think it is beautiful-- and are you ready for this -- she does not have a blog of her own -- YET. Check it out and feel free to leave her a comment on here since she subscribes to my blog so she will see it. Maybe if enough of us post she will start her own blog. I will have to get permission to post the outstanding paperbag book she made for all of us on our little get away! Way over the top! So with no further a-do....... her card.

Favor Tin Holiday Magnets

If you are like me you always over buy for any project you do. Well, I bought lots of these little favor tins to make holiday ornaments with my clubs last year and of course I have a bunch left over. So why not make magnets out of them. I am going to try to make some more detailed 3d ones in the next few days but for now I think these are adorable and ohhhh sooooo easy and fast to make.

Supplies Needed: Mini favor tins (can be found at JoAnn's or other craft store), scraps of designer paper that fit your theme, stamps that fit your theme, 2 inch circle punch or Coluzzle cutting system, dimentionals, markers, large glitter/fake snow/beads or other form of confetti, red line tape, two way glue pen, Crystal Effects, Scotch Quick-Drying Tacky Glue (this glue works great for attaching paper to tin), super strong magnets, super glue to attach magnets and scissors.

In my sample I used a 2 inch circle from the Wintergreen collection of designer series paper. Attach a piece of red line tape to the back of your circle and lay it in the bottom of the tin. There will be a very small amount of the tin showing so you need to be careful to center the circle.

Next stamp your image with black ink on both Whisper White and again on the same Wintergreen designer paper so that you can paper piece the snowman's scarf and the brim of his hat. Cut out the entire snowman that is stamped on Whisper White and only the scarf and brim of the hat on the designer series stamped image. ( I used the snowman from Holiday Tag Team)

Use markers to color in the birds, highlight the snowman and snow and color hat, nose and buttons. I used Real Red (hat and heart button), Going Grey to Highlight (snowman and snow), Bashful Blue (birds and snowflakes), Sage Shadow (ball on top of hat and round buttons) and Only Orange (nose).

Use the two way glue pen on the Whisper White image -- only on the scarf and brim of hat and place cut out Wintergreen paper in place. This is the simplest form of paper piecing.

After your snowman is done attach dimentionals to the back of him. I layered three on top of each other to make him really stand out from the bottom of the tin.

Place him in the tin on top of your Wintergreen circle. Be sure to place him so that the bottom of the snowman is up close to the side of the tin. So it looks like he is sanding in the tin.

And your fake snow (or other type of shaker ingredient) to the tin.

Put a tin layer of Crystal Effects around the inside rim of the lid. You do not want your magnet to open up and spill all over your house.

Put cover on tin and allow to dry for a few minutes.

While your cover is drying cut a strip of matching designer paper 1/2 inch by 7 inches. Apply a thin layer of Scotch Fast-Drying Tacky Glue to the back of your strip. Spread evenly and to all corners with your finger.

Attach this strip to the side of your tin. You could make your strip wider to cover the entire side if you wish.

Finish off your project by gluing a super strong magnet on the back. How easy was that! I hope you enjoyed it. Here a are a few more samples.

Looks like I need to go and polish my nails, they look horrible. Sorry.

Look What I Got!

I won a challenge on Shannan Teubner's blog and not only did she send me this awesome stamp set from Verve Visuals but she also took the time to write a little note in this beautiful card. I love this set, although I have never created anything quite this beautiful with it. Lots of details and awesome colors. Can you see the sparkle on the egg. I love it, thanks Shannan.

Joy comes in a bundle of colors.

This card is not only for another one of Sara's Sketches on her Desperate Stamper Blog but it is also for a challenge on a group I belong on . The challenge is to make a card with paper piecing on it. I did not realize when I signed up that I do not have too many sets that are current and that I can use with this technique. So after narrowing it down to this one or the Summer by the Sea, which is on the dormant list, I decided to use this. It is hard to use Summer Sets at the very beginning of the fall/winter season. I even used designer paper from the Winter Bright Simply Scrappin kit. It is a bit bright and also a bit out of my comfort zone but that is why I join these challenges. I need to run to another cub scout outing so I am only going to give you the supplies used. If you have questions please feel free to ask.

Paper: Wild Wasabi, textured Bashful Blue, Real Red. Basic Black, Whisper White and both sides of a sheet of designer paper from the Winter Bright Simply Scrappin kit.

Ink: Basic Black

Stamp Set: Bundle of Joy

Misc: scallop square punch, , square punch, small and large oval punch, photo corner punch, circle punch, white button type things that are painted black, rose and pretty in pink grosgrain ribbon and paper snips.

Techniques used: Paper Piecing and Frayed Ribbon for the hair on the giraffe.

Here is the sketch that I used. In case you want to play along.
